A resin bound driveway and resin patio can be a great addition to any home or garden. Resin driveways and resin patios are made from resin, which is a type of material that is durable, low-maintenance, affordable, and perfect for all sorts of environments. They are better than other surfaces such as tarmac or concrete in many different ways, although as with all materials, can have their drawbacks.
What is a Resin Bound Surface?
Resin driveways and resin patios can be a great addition to any home or garden. Resin driveways and resin patios are made from resin, which is durable, low-maintenance, affordable, perfect for all sorts of environments and better than other surfaces such as tarmac or concrete in many different ways. However resin may not always be the best option for your specific situation.
Resin also has a low-maintenance cost as it is durable and can last up to 50 years without any problems or the need for resurfacing. In addition resin surfaces have many different designs which make them perfect for anyone’s situation whether they want their driveway/patio to be versatile enough for every occasion, look aesthetically pleasing with its natural stone design or even just create a more modern looking environment around your home.
Resin can be great option but may not always suitable for everybody as mentioned before. Resin surfaces do have some drawbacks such as being susceptible to damage from chemicals like oil spills, so you will need to ensure that any spillages are dealt with in a timely manner and are not left to soak on the surface for a long period of time.
Benefits of Resin Bound Materials
There are many reasons why these kinds of surface should be considered over other surface materials available.
- Non-slip resin driveways and resin patios can be great for children’s play areas as they offer a safe environment when kids decide to ride their bikes or skateboards around.
- Resin surfaces do not require much in the way of maintenance, unlike regular tarmac and concrete which will need resealing every two years (ideally) to protect against weather damage like frost and cracks. Resin driveways and resin patios on the other hand only need an application once every five years at most depending on how often it is used; this makes them very appealing if you don’t have time for upkeep, are forgetful or just hate doing jobs round the house!
- Resin driveways can be available in a range of different colours and styles, and at SJH we have a selection of colours and styles from both our standard and premium rates. Click here to view the full range of colours available in our ranges.
- Resin driveways are more cost effective than a traditional tarmac driveway.
- Resin bound surfaces can be used to make paths, patios and even general decking too which makes it an extremely versatile product for any home. At SJH, we also have our unique PermaDecking service which can provide high-end decking results that last and don’t break the bank.
There’s no need to worry about cracking with resin bound surfaces either as they’re tough enough to withstand the harshest of weather conditions such as snow or frost that cause cracks in most other materials. There is also less chance of damage from oil spills, petrol stains and animal waste on resin driveways compared to concrete driveways where everything seems drawn towards the surface making them very difficult clean when this happens. Resin drives however will not absorb these liquids so they won’t stick.
The Drawbacks of Resin Patios and Driveways
As with everything, there are drawbacks. The down sides to a resin driveway are easily outweighed by the benefits however. As mentioned above, a resin solution can be slightly more expensive up front than regular surfaces but are proven to be much more cost effective in the long run. This is because the product needs to go through an extra step of mixing with resin before it’s ready, which costs money and time.
Resin Bound Driveway vs Tarmac
Concrete or tarmac driveway surfaces will both be much more expensive than resin which is why resin has become such a popular alternative, especially for homes with larger driveways as they can save thousands of pounds.
Furthermore, concrete and tarmac both require maintenance such as resealing every few years whereas resin doesn’t need this at all. Resin bound patios can also last longer without any regular repairs needed. These types of patio solutions naturally work better in high traffic areas where people may often walk across them too meaning that it might not be suitable for places like your front garden unless you’re living somewhere very quiet.
